It is important to me that people are empowered to be the best individual they can and want to be. Almost everyone has to work. For some, work gives us meaning, for others work helps us support our families and non-work interests.
I want people to hate work less.
Work is something we are taught to hate. Maybe its because we watched our parents get laid off after working at the same company for 35 years. Or maybe its because so many of us don’t know what we want to do with our lives and are stuck working in a field that sounded like a “safe bet.”
I want work to suck less.
This is unique to every organization. Companies are like people. They all have a personality. Some are quieter, others are loud. Some shout their intentions to change the world, others work quietly to revolutionize our daily lives.
Making work suck less is going to be unique. Their isn’t a one-size fits all, “best practice” that HR can implement to make everyone happy and every company utopia.
I want to re-hab HR’s image
In many cases people only know HR to be scared of it: the HR lady = the grim reaper. Lets stop that now!
Yes, sometimes we have to deliver bad news. Sometimes we have to conduct investigations into very serious matters. But that doesn’t mean we have to play spoiler with everything else. Enough with the dire warnings about lawsuits! Allowing a dart board in the break room or bring your dog to work day won’t result in a company-ending lawsuit. It just won’t. Stop the shrieking now.
I have the privilege of being connected to an amazing amount of awesome HR pro’s who are positive advocates for the profession (check out my blogroll), lets make that circle bigger. Who else agrees with me?
